Wooden City

My hometown set a blaze
October 8, 1871
9PM golden flames
Burned this wooden city down
Do-do-do, do-do-do
The firemen slow to respond
The fire the night before wore them out
And see them now in their fire truck
But they were sent to the wrong part of town
Do-do-do, do-do-do
Do-do-do
Bridge:
Would you believe those confounded flames
Well, of course we blamed it on a cow
The city burned from Sunday until Tuesday
Well I wonder what they'd think if they could see us now
It burned and burned and tore everything up
Inspiring chaos at every turn
It burned the water and it burned the land
Indiana saw the glow as it burned
And when at last it could burn no more
There was nothing left for the fire to gain
And man could not fight although he tried
So thank the good Lord for the rain, hey!
